The Vingrom Church Norwegian Boy's Choir and friends will perform several songs from Norway and around the globe. This concert will be a joyful celebration of the spirit of children both young and older. The event will be held in the beautiful New Dorp Moravian Church concert space. NDMC has amazing acoustics and a warm atmosphere that makes for great music making! Circa 1763, It is the second oldest church in Staten Island. St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Historic Richmondtown is the oldest.
Even if you do not understand Norwegian, the children will be singing lively, catchy and familiar songs in several languages, including English. Here is there song list: Langt å gå (It’s a Long Way to Go), Sesebacha (traditional South African song), Greased Lightning (from Grease the musical). Tenke Sjæl (Think for Yourself), I Feel Your Spirit and Kongebarn (The King’s Children). Rounding out the concert will be the choral compositions of Jim Papoulis, Music Makes Me, Kuwa Furaha, and Oye featuring the combined children choirs. Vingrom Church’s Boy’s Choir was founded in 2003 by Gerd Rindal. Today it is led by Carol and Thor Kvande. The boys are in charge of finding the repertoire themselves, and sheet music is never used in the rehearsals.
Vingrom is a nearby town to Lillehammer, the 1994 Olympic City, where most of the boys are coming from. Thor is hardcore Norwegian Viking, while Carol is a Durban-born actress and vocalist. You can find the choir on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/vingromkirkesguttekor/
Award-winning Tenor, Michéal Castaldo, will sing Mio Cuore, which features a child soloist and the combined Nowegian Boy's and New Dorp Moravian Children's choirs. Further, he will sing solo repertoire. He will also sing a duet penned by Castaldo and critically acclaimed Norwegian composer Stein Berge Svendsen entitled Pray'r in duet with Tenor, Andrew Kay.
